Course Overview
We discuss what makes game worlds compelling and how effective use of light can make of break a game.
Student Outcomes
- Students will learn the key techniques and principles of lighting in Video Games. We also touch on the subjects of making game ready scenes.
- Lighting principles and how they apply to Video Games
- Mood, time of day and how they affect your approach to creating appropriate lightscape
- Working with 3D lights
- Key terminology and methods – Global illumination, local lights, light pooling
- Lighting and how 3D lights interact with Shaders
- A brief look at some non-art related tasks that make a scene game ready
Prerequisites
Some 3D package experience is necessary. All sessions
include hands-on practice on Windows computers. This course is an
introductory course and not suited for advanced 3D art professionals.
Some experience with Windows computers required.
