I just played Forza on 16K array screens and it’s just as good as the real thing except for the exploding cactus. In fact, it is MUCH BETTER than reality.
In video games, we have had AI, computer vision, and spatial intelligence since the 1950s.
Video games communicate near-reality content in real-time to thousands of users simultaneously.
Making Video Games is super hard.
They are often step up from reality or enhanced reality. It’s a kind of magic fueled by software and hardware.
Until one day hardware will disappear completely and we’ll just beam around.
I have been creating cybernetically since 1995, I should probably put my MacBook pro as a co-author,or as a co-founder or just a work buddy. While this little machine is not a robot or an intelligence yet it’s a highly capable machine. Remember when Joseph Campbell said that inside the computer is a hierarchy of angels.
I’ve been mainly creating in 3D because this is the coolest right I mean the picture book is just not as exciting.
3D used to be very expensive and while video games are light years ahead of Enterprise – Enterprise is finally catching up with 3D. And the reason Enterprise was behind in the 3D adventure is that 3D is very expensive. It is exponentially more data more computing power more electricity – it’s just vastly more resources.
With the exponential growth of computing and power computing intelligence now 3D has entered Enterprise. It has become less expensive to be in 3D than in the real world with all the global warming and expenditures with people commuting. And also the tremendous amount of learning that is needed these days and especially remote learning because if everyone goes to the place they need to learn from it’s going to be a constant traffic jam on the roads.
I guess the pandemic and I guess the time is right for 3D to aid Enterprise. Of course, 3D has been in the medical offices for many years, My dentist in California 3D printed crowns for my teeth 15 years ago. 3D has been at NASA and the military forever.
The interesting angle is artificial intelligence and machine learning which are fast becoming three-dimensional generators. I don’t think in 5 years artists will be messing around with photogrammetry it’s going to be automatic and we might be inhabiting partially digital worlds.
As we are today, to be honest. Unless you’ve never posted on social media.
But for me social media is too flat it’s like a shooting gallery rather than a place of entertainment, it reminds me of watching commercials or the shopping channel but without actually being calming and relaxing.
Ever wonder why Minecraft is a popular version of 3D? Because it’s cheap to make 3D out of cubes. And that’s why the metaverse looks a bit simpler than say a AAA video game it’s just a lot less expensive to develop. A AAA video game is at least 80 million for a certain amount of hours of entertainment. But the idea for the metaverse is to be persistent – a kind of multiverse is going to be an enormous computing challenge for it to look like the Mandalorian.
Cant wait till we operate space ships remotely from the house, and fold space and traverse the real metaverses without a suit.
Been thinking of making illegal Art Installations in gallery spaces and exploding paintings, via AR :) I love low level AR vandalism in the Subway and the Park.
Maybe one day we would get arrested for being AR stupid. But till then – enjoy: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLl9XJDcVINfOGNPatpSwT9OmG3DyXhvhT
